Technical Production

This program teaches students of technical theater and production through Industrial Art 201, Stagecraft 202, Stagecraft 203, Urban Impact Shakescraft.

Program Options

Industrial Arts 201

5th-12th grade
Fall/Spring, Thursdays 4:30pm-6:00pm

Students will begin to explore and develop the skills needed to use basic hand tools and carpentry. These skills are focused on creating a mindset of exploration and confidence in the use of the tools and will better prepare students for the workforce. Students will assist in prop-making for UIF’s Fall & Spring productions.

Intro to Sound 201

5th-12th grade
Fall/Spring, Thursdays 6:30pm-8:00pm

Students will study the beginning principles of Sound Design. This extends to the science of sound, basic audio equipment knowledge, and how to apply those skills to live events. They will gain knowledge in design, mixing, script interpretation, and hands-on experience with audio gear. Students will learn the basic principles to run sound for live events and have a competitive edge in the future if they choose to pursue a number of careers in the audio field.

Entertainment Construction 202

6th-12th Grade
Fall/Spring, Thursdays 4:30pm-6:00pm & 6:30pm-8:00pm $30 course cost, $60 non-resident** Industrial Art 201 prerequisite

Students will continue to grow in their knowledge of hand tools in addition to begin learning how to operate power tools. Students will do smaller projects and crafts to gain a better understanding of how tools are used and items are created. Important Technical Theatre vocabulary will also be introduced to students.

Students will receive advanced training in construction skills and the use of power tools, painting, and more. These students will also build props, scenic pieces,
and other items for Light the Night and the Musical. During the class, we will begin to understand how to do technical drafting for construction of projects.

Urban Impact ShakeCraft

Middle School & High School Summer, M-TH 10:00am-4:00pm

In this elite production program, students grow in
their construction and planning skills. The students help to produce all the production needs of a full Shakespeare show, students relate their testimony to the themes and characters in the show. ShakesCraft is a partner program with Shakes to produce the summer Shakespeare performance.

Construction for Actors 101

8th-12th Grade
Fall and Spring, Thursdays 6:30pm-8:00pm

Students will begin to explore and develop the skills needed to use basic hand tools and carpentry. They
will produce art pieces, sculptures, paintings, models, and many different projects that will aid them in skill development. These skills are focused on creating a mindset of exploration and confidence in the use of the tools and will better prepare students for Entertainment Production 202. It will also prepare them to be better candidates for paid carpentry jobs in the workforce.
