Julia Piecka

Julia served as a Summer Day Camp intern for four years before she joined the Urban Impact Fellows program in 2019. Julia was an Urban Fellow with the Education department for a year before she transitioned onto staff as the Tutoring Center Urban Missionary. She grew up in Pittsburgh, and attended college at West Virginia University with a Bachelor of Social Work in 2018. After college, she spent a year doing international mission work with a program called the World Race. After years of moving from place to place, Julia is excited to call the North Side of Pittsburgh her home and build community with the students and families.

I work with Urban Impact because I love sharing the Gospel and cultivating relationships with our students. As a Christ follower, I believe it is my purpose and calling to spread the Good News wherever the Lord leads me. I felt called Pittsburgh after I spent a year internationally doing mission work– the Lord opened a door for me to join Urban Impact as an Urban Fellow, and it was a clear answer from the Lord. I love what I do because I get to provide students with the extra resources and tutoring they need to set them up for success academically and holistically. Being able to share the Gospel and advocate for our students is what I was made to do.

Tutoring Center Urban Missionary

The Tutoring Center is Urban Impact’s after school program. The Tutoring Center takes place two days a week after school. Each day, the students are picked up from their school and transported to the Pittsburgh Project; students are provided some free time to work on homework and a snack before classes start. The students receive math and reading assistance as well as Christian Education with a hot meal in between. As the Tutoring Center Urban Missionary, I oversee the program while building relationships with our students and families to help provide the best assistance for academics. I also connect with our students’ teachers to learn the best way I can be providing assistance and resources to meet the needs of our students outside of school.
